The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has published a revised version of Form I‑9. The new form will be mandatory beginning September 18, 2017. Employers may continue using form I‑9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 N through September 17, 2017.
Two minor changes were made to the I‑9 instructions. USCIS changed the name of the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration-Related Unfair Employment Practices to its new name, Immigrant and Employee Rights Section. USCIS also removed “the end of” from the phrase “the first day of employment.
The revisions to the form relate to USCIS’s List of Acceptable Documents and specifically update List C to reflect the most current version of the certification or report of birth issued by the U.S. State Department. For specific information on the changes to List C documents see USCIS website.
